Miss the days of a sunlight sky
where the ocean, the sun all lived in your eyes
where the stars would shine just a little to bright
and the waves would hold you a little too light.
when countless hours were spent with a toe in the pool
and day after day you’d make me laugh like a fool.
after several weeks of this on and on chatter
you mixed in my heart in to this cookie dough batter.
it tasted to sweet, like icing on a cake,
like the kiss of your lips made me stay wide awake.
those were the days and the months of my life.
when the sun hit your shoulders and and you’d turn red and bright.
when a month was a minute and a hour was a year.
when time stood still, with your voice i could hear.
all the fish in all the seas, all the birds and all the bees
all the boys and all the girls, forever falling to their knees
even when the sun dipped back for a rest
i had a pillow right on your chest.
those were the days, so sweet yet sorrow
the days of summer i got to borrow.
